Lucy often known as Lucy Branham was the youngest daughter of Caroline Branham. Born around 1806, Lucy’s life represents a profound chapter in the biracial genealogy of the Washington-Custis family tree, linking Mount Vernon's enslaved community to prominent historical events.
While Caroline Branham’s first seven children were fathered by her husband, Peter Hardiman, Lucy is widely believed to have been fathered by George Washington Parke-Custis Martha Washington's grandson and the builder of Arlington House.
